The Boynton Beach Police Department publishes quarterly enforcement numbers and a monthly count of camera notices by location. This page uses those reports, together with what the court and the State Attorney publish, to show how a Boynton Beach case moves. How Mr. Mead defends a DUI is on the DUI defense page. Other charges are listed in the criminal defense practice areas.

How does a Boynton Beach case move, step by step?

  1. The stop. Boynton Beach police inside the city, or PBSO District 6 in the unincorporated area to the west.
  2. Booking and release. A person not released sees a judge at the jail on Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach within 24 hours.
  3. Records. Reports and body camera video are requested from the Records Division; reports are generally ready in 7 to 10 business days.
  4. The license. A DUI driver has 10 days to act with FLHSMV's bureau office in Lauderdale Lakes.
  5. Court in Delray Beach. Southern Region arraignments are held weekly at the South County Courthouse.
  6. Resolution. A program, a plea, a dismissal or a trial; jury trials go to West Palm Beach.

What do the Boynton Beach police numbers show?

It also holds a DUI Victim Memorial with Palm Beach County Victim Services to honor people killed in DUI-related crashes.

Who makes arrests in Boynton Beach?

The Boynton Beach Police Department lists its headquarters at 2100 High Ridge Road, Boynton Beach, FL 33426, with a main number of 561.742.6100, a non-emergency number of 561.732.8116 and lobby hours of Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., closed on weekends. West of the city, Administrative Order 4.603 assigns the unincorporated western Boynton Beach and Delray area to PBSO District 6, whose cases also go to the South County Courthouse.

How do the red light and school zone cameras work?

The department's Photo Enforcement Program started with red light cameras in 2010 and added school zone speed cameras in 2025, under Florida's Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act and related statutes. The department says every event is reviewed before a Notice of Violation is issued, and that a violation may lead to a Notice of Violation or, if necessary, a Uniform Traffic Citation. For March 2026 it reported:

  • Red light cameras: 3,436 Notices of Violation in total. The busiest approaches were northbound South Federal Highway at SE 23rd Avenue (449) and westbound West Boynton Beach Boulevard at NW 8th Street (406).
  • School zone speed cameras: 3,876 Notices of Violation in total, led by Freedom Shores Elementary (1,212) and Crosspointe Elementary (1,052).

A camera notice follows a separate process from a ticket an officer writes at a traffic stop; ordinary tickets are covered on our traffic tickets page.

How do I get a Boynton Beach police report or body camera video?

The Records Division says police reports, crash reports and body-worn camera footage can be requested in person at headquarters, by phone at 561-742-6100 or online through GovQA, and that a fee may apply. Police reports are generally available 7 to 10 business days after the incident, requests are handled in the order received, and some material may be withheld or redacted under Florida law, including information about active investigations, juveniles and victims. In a DUI or criminal case, the report and the video are among the first things a defense lawyer reviews.

Where does a Boynton Beach case go after an arrest?

Boynton Beach is in the Southern Region, so its county court cases are heard at the South County Courthouse, 200 West Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, where the State Attorney holds DUI and misdemeanor arraignments weekly. That building is described on our page about what to expect at the South County Courthouse.

The first hearing comes before that, in West Palm Beach: a person held after arrest goes before a judge at the State Attorney's branch office in the jail building on Gun Club Road, the stage covered by the first 48 hours after an arrest. Bond is explained in how bond works in Florida. A DUI license review runs separately, through FLHSMV's Bureau of Administrative Reviews in Lauderdale Lakes.

What should I know about a Boynton Beach DUI arrest?

The license deadline after a Boynton Beach DUI arrest is 10 days, explained in how to keep your license after a DUI arrest. FLHSMV's list of licensed DUI programs has no Boynton Beach location; its Palm Beach County listings are in Delray Beach and West Palm Beach. Some first-time defendants may be offered the State Attorney's program, which must be accepted at arraignment at one of its satellite courthouses, South County among them; see the Palm Beach County first-time DUI program. The full sequence is in what happens after a Florida DUI arrest. The first days are in our first-week DUI checklist. For other charges, the first court date is explained in whether you have to go to arraignment. First offenses may qualify for pretrial diversion.

What changes the answer?

  • A camera notice or an officer's ticket. The department says a camera violation may lead to a Notice of Violation or, if necessary, a Uniform Traffic Citation; an officer's DUI arrest is a criminal case.
  • City or county agency. Boynton Beach police and PBSO District 6 both send cases to the South County Courthouse under AO 4.603.
  • Records that can be withheld. The Records Division says information about active investigations, juveniles and victims may be withheld or redacted.
  • A crash. Crash cases can bring felony charges heard in circuit court (s. 26.012(2)(d)).
  • Drug charges. The department reported 172 drug offenses in the second quarter of 2026; our drug offenses page covers how those cases are defended.

A worked example

For example, imagine a hypothetical driver stopped on Federal Highway by Boynton Beach police and arrested for DUI after a 0.12 breath result. Released after posting bond, the driver files a records request through GovQA for the police report and body camera footage, which the Records Division says are usually ready 7 to 10 business days after the incident, subject to redactions. Within 10 days of the notice of suspension, the driver chooses a license option with FLHSMV. The arraignment is set at the South County Courthouse in Delray Beach, and because Boynton Beach has no licensed DUI program, the driver would enroll at one in Delray Beach or West Palm Beach if DUI school were needed. This is a hypothetical walk-through, not a prediction.

Common mistakes people make

  • Asking for the report the day after the arrest; the department says 7 to 10 business days.
  • Treating a red light or school zone notice as if it were a criminal citation, or the reverse.
  • Showing up at the police station on a weekend, when the lobby is closed.
  • Missing the 10-day license deadline while waiting for the report.

What to do this week

  1. Request the police report and any body camera video from the Records Division.
  2. For a DUI, mark day 10 from the notice of suspension.
  3. Confirm the courthouse and date on the notice.
  4. Keep the bond, tow and citation paperwork together.
  5. Call a lawyer before anything is filed in the criminal case.
